Lots of news from M&D!

• We last night acquired 56 vehicles in the auction for school contracts. These are now being sent to Bootle Super Depot for storage prior to any school contracts that we do win starting. During this time they will be submitted for a full refurbishment at Bootle depot, the majority being returned to original condition that they were in when new, with the minority being kept in their current condition due to the fact they are unlikely to feature in M&Ds long term plans. We will then carefully select few refurbished vehicles to feature in our companies preserved vehicle collection.
  
• We will soon be embarking on a refurbishment programme on vehicles older than 5 years old. This is to ensure our vehicles are presented at the highest standard and are in good condition for service. In this the vehicles will be completely stripped down, having all defective panels replaced, the chassis cleaned and checked for defects (and dangerous buses will be withdrawn and scrapped), the interior stripped out and refitted to the highest standards, with all seats cleaned, painted, polished and re-trimmed, and grab poles repainted. All interior lights will be replaced and be checked to ensure they are working efficiently, and all buses will have TV screens fitted displaying route and stop information. This is a project which will cost in excess of £5,000 per bus, and will total over half a million pounds.
  
• During this time, we will have reserve vehicles replacing these, with some school buses being used to deputise for vehicles that are away. This will mean some step buses may appear on some services, but this will be temporary, and the buses will be allocated to different duties every day to prevent customers being affected by this.
  
• We are currently in negotiations with a 3rd party regarding the purchase of spare land in central Liverpool. This will ease loads on outer city depots and will leads us into possibly looking into the possibility of closing depots. However these plans are in the early stages.
  
• M&D will this year be operating 3 Christmas day services on behalf of Merseytravel. Below are further details of our operating schedule.
  Christmas Eve: Services as normal until 10pm, when all journies will stop, with every service then operating HALF FREQUENCY (Hourly buses will become 2 hourly) until Midnight when all services will cease.
  Christmas Day: Merseytravel tendered services only.
  Boxing Day: Sunday Services.
  Usual services up to and including New Years eve
  New Years Day: the following depots will be operating the following services on an Hourly frequency.
  
  Widnes: Services 3, 14, 62
  Runcorn: Service 1+1A (Half Hourly frequency), 61, 82A, X1
  Speke: 80A, 86A, 500/501
  Laird Street: 401, 403/413, 411, 432, 437
  Warrington: 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 13, 16, 19, 20, 31
  St Helens: 10A, 89
  Bootle: 52A, 53A, 60, 61, 62, 68, 81A, 300

Following up from the above, we have agreed a fee of £80,000 to purchase a large plot of land on Great Howard Street opposite Stanley Docks. We have also agreed a fee of £200,000 with a building contractor who will commence construction of a central Liverpool Depot. From this we will run some new Liverpool routes while also moving some other routes from other depots to here aswell. This will also be the base for many of our School Buses that will operate on the Wirral. We will post further plans at a later date

M&D have also taken delivery of 20 high spec MCV Evolutions for Warrington depot. These shall enter service next week.

This week, M&Ds soccerbuses will be displaying Soccerbus on the window of the bus, with the main LED destination units displaying a tribute to the late Paul Rice, the uncle of a close friend of the companies M&D, and also someone who has significantly contributed towards the Spirit of Shankley LFC fan club.

Also an order has been submitted in the last 2 weeks for over 150 brand new vehicles!

Warrington depot has had a recent investment of over £1 million. This replaces all 20th century vehicles.
All new omnicties, N123 DWM and N132 DWM have been dispatched to Bootle super depot for a complete refurbishment, the latter 2 having the chassis strengthened, a full interior replacement, and an engine overhaul. This is in anticipation for a new Wales route operating from Llandudno depot.
All early Dennis Darts have been withdrawn, a decision regarding their future is pending.
All BMC Condors are starting to be replaced. Their future hasn't been decided, however it's likely they will be sold on due to them not fulfilling our needs.
